Founded in 1913, Bakersfield College (BC) stands as one of the oldest continuously operating community colleges in the United States. Athletic Tradition: The Renegades’ Winning Legacy
Bakersfield College’s athletic program, known as the Renegades or “Gades,” boasts a rich history of competitive success. Since its founding in 1922, the Athletics Department has won a grand total of 195 conference team championships, 15 state team championships, and 10 national team championships. BC fields approximately 300 Renegade student-athletes annually across 20 sports, including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling.
The crown jewel of BC athletics is Memorial Stadium, opened in 1955, which serves as the home of Renegade Football and Track & Field. The Renegade Softball Field has been home to nine consecutive CCCAA Softball State Championships.
